Microsoft, Yahoo e Amazon.com estão se juntando em uma aliança para tentar frear os planos de digitalização de livros do Google. Chamado Open Book Alliance, o grupo formado pelos gigantes da tecnologia está sendo montado pelo Internet Archive, um crítico de longa data da iniciativa do Google Books, de fazer cópias digitais de livros impressos.

De acordo com o diretor de acesso do Internet Archive, Peter Brantley, tanto a Microsoft quanto o Yahoo já confirmaram sua intenção de se juntarem à aliança. Já a Amazon não quer comentar sua participação, enquanto o grupo não seja anunciado oficialmente. Além disso, a Open Book Alliance vai contar com uma variedade de grupos sem fins lucrativos.

A aliança tentará convencer o Departamento de Justiça dos Estados Unidos que o amplo acordo do Google com autores e editoras poderia prejudicar a concorrência no mercado de livros digitais à medida que cada vez mais consumidores estão optando por leitores eletrônicos, como o Kindle, da Amazon.com.

Ironicamente, o grupo vai trabalhar em parceria com o advogado Gary Reback, o mesmo que ajudou a convencer o Ministério da Justiça a abrir processo antitruste contra a Microsoft, na década de 1990.

O Departamento de Justiça norte-americano já está avaliando as possíveis

conseqüências do acordo de livros do Google, que está programado para ser analisado pelo juiz Denny Chin numa audiência marcada para o dia 7 de outubro, em Nova York.

Um fotógrafo norte-americano está processando a Apple por infração de direito autoral. O artista afirma que a companhia usou uma foto de sua autoria de maneira indevida no serviço de aplicativos do iPhone.

Em uma ação judicial apresentada nesta quinta-feira (20) junto a um tribunal federal de Manhattan, o fotógrafo Loui Psihoyos argumenta que a Apple está usando sua imagem "1000 TVs" (também chamada "500 monitors") no aplicativo de guia de filmes "i.TV", do iPhone.

Psihoyos acusa a companhia de infringir os direitos autorais da imagem produzida em 2005. Ele está buscando ressarcimento de danos entre outras exigências que juntos poderiam "razoavelmente" exceder os US$ 2 milhões, segundo a ação.

A porta-voz da Apple, Kristin Huguet, não retornou imediatamente contato com pedido de comentário.
